Intention

At Twineham Church of England Primary School, we aim to develop practical problem-solving and design thinking through our Design and Technology curriculum. We aim to:
  • Encourage pupils to design, create, and evaluate functional products through hands-on learning.
  • Promote an understanding of how design and technology impact the world and our daily lives.
  • Inspire creativity and innovation in solving real-world problems, while developing practical skills.
Our intention is to ensure that all pupils leave with the confidence to apply design thinking and practical skills to solve challenges creatively.
Implementation

We implement the DT curriculum using Kapow, which offers a series of engaging projects that focus on key areas such as designing, making, and evaluating products. Lessons are designed to be both creative and technical, allowing pupils to explore a variety of materials and techniques.
Through practical, cross-curricular projects, pupils gain experience working in teams and applying their learning to solve real-life problems. Teachers ensure that all activities are appropriately differentiated to support the needs of all students.

Impact

By the end of their time at Twineham, pupils will:
  • Have developed a range of practical skills, from sketching and prototyping to constructing and evaluating functional products.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively to design and make projects that meet specific criteria.
  • Be able to reflect on their work, identify areas for improvement, and demonstrate resilience in overcoming challenges.
  • Have a strong understanding of the role of design and technology in everyday life, equipped with the skills and creativity to continue exploring these fields in their future education.
